Kiyoko-senpai has been acting quite out of the norm, as of late. Hitoka noticed in her glances, mostly, but also in the way her hands move. They touch her, now, and when they talk she leans closer than usual, for some reason. Of course, it's not something others would notice, no matter how much they generally look at her. The boys sure saw nothing different in the way she looks at them, the only differece about her dark attentive eyes is the one only Hitoka noticed.
Of course, she has been thinking about Kiyoko-senpai a lot more than any other girl would - doodling her in class, writing her name in the best possible way over and over, daydreaming about kissing the mole on her cheek and then blushing right after. Playing over and over in her mind the tone of senpai's voice when she calls her, thinking about inviting her over. For homework, of course. It's not like she's love to spend time together off school, and Kiyoko-senpai must be so busy too! She's a model student, all her grades are excellent, and Hitoka is quite sure that's not just because of her brilliant mind, there must also be an awful amount of regular, disciplined, hard work behind Kiyoko-senpai's successes. That's maybe why she would not have time for Hitoka and her less successful school career. She is citizen B, after all, and there is nothing bad about that, someone's got to be. Kiyoko is a princess, and what would a princess do with a peasant? Nothing, that's what.
Wait, why is she thinking about these things? Kiyoko-senpai surely never meant to imply she's interested in Hitoka that way. Sure, one of the little voices in Hitoka's mind say that nobody would go out of their way to touch her hand or her face, even looking like they're making excuses up. But maybe, again, it's all in her mind. Surely it means nothing at all. After all, girls tend to be a lot touchier with one another than boys and it never meant much.
She's so beautiful and elegant, though. Sometimes Hitoka can't help trying to touch her fingers too, and when she does she will immediately look at Kiyoko to make sure she is not uncomfortable. And Kiyoko's lips always curl up a little, when she looks back. But it's probably because she thinks it's ridiculous. She does not really look like someone that would touch people a lot. Of course, when she reaches out and grabs Hitoka's hand it's obviously because they're both girls and nothing bans them from touching. Right? It's not like when boys and girls hold hands.
Maybe she thinks holding Hitoka's hand would calm her down when she's nervous (as in, half the time). Indeed, it kind of does. Her hands always seem so quiet and she always looks so confident, as opposed to the wreck Hitoka feels like most of the time. On the other hand, whenever Kiyoko's hands slide against Hitoka's hands, her heart threatens to burst instantly. It picks up thrumming in his chest, her blood pumps harder, her face shows exactly every emotion in her tightened guts.
She should be more careful about controlling her face. If Kiyoko-senpai knew, she would definitely think Hitoka is weird, and... that would not be Great, would it? She would absolutely think Hitoka is a weirdo, maybe a pervert. So she giggles nervously every time, being the first to break contact even though her guts twist every time. If she could spend whole days just holding Kiyoko-senpai's hand, she would be perfectly content with her life and would forgive it for all the curve balls it threw at her.
So, if there is something Hitoka is fairly confident of, is that Kiyoko-senpai likes her, but not like-likes her. She only likes her as a friend, as the only other girls in the volleyball team. The boys surely could not help her make sure about the way Kiyoko-senpai feels because, of course, why would she ask them anyway? They would think she's a weirdo, as well. No, after all if anyone was really interested to her... she would notice, right?
"What are you thinking about?" Kiyoko-senpai asks, looking at her wolf down her lunch as they sit on the roof.
"Huh? Nwoffin'," Hitoka mumbles with her mouth full, and then obviously red spreads on her cheeks when she realizes how embarrassing she just looked. And Kiyoko smiles at her, with a weird expression. A tender one?
And then Hitoka's breath stops, her heart just forgets how to beat normally - she knows because it's like her whole body froze and there is nothing in her chest anymore, it's that typical sensation of not realizing something is missing until it's gone.
Kiyoko's face is so close, and only then Hitoka realizes... their lips are touching! That's somehow the last thing she registers out of everything.
Her eyes fly wide and that single instant lasts forever before she notices Kiyoko pulling back.
That was... an illusion? Was she daydreaming? She touches her lips, while still red like a tomato, and looks over at her senpai to somehow... verify that she's actually there. She is, and she's tilting her head.
"What's wrong?" She asks, quiet but just a little bit concerned, and Hitoka stares at her for a few more seconds before squawking out, "did you just kiss me?"
It's like her neural network stopped working together and all her neurons are screaming in a chaos, which is probably why she just blurted that out.
But Kiyoko bursts in one of the tiny giggles, amused.
"Yes. What's wrong with that?" She finally replies, placing a hand on Hitoka's, and the latter almost jumps like a spine prickled her, again.
"W-wait, what...?"
Now Kiyoko's face scrunches up in a little frown, with amused confusion all over her face.
"Wait, I thought you liked me...?" She says softly, scratching her head, and Hitoka tenses up all nervous as she blabbers, "I... I do! I do, actually, yes! I thought you... didn't like me, not like... this!"
The two of them stare at each other for a while, but it's Kiyoko that finally breaks the awkward silence with loud, really relieved laughter.
"Hitoka-san, I thought we'd been dating for a week now!" She explains, wiping a tear of laughter from her eye.
"What?!" Hitoka screeches, turning all red again and then hiding her face into her hands. "Wait a second, I need to... gather myself," she adds, shaking a little. "I didn't know you like girls!"
Kiyoko laughs again, and through all the shock and confusion Hitoka thinks: wow, her laughter is so cute. She's all cute. And pretty. And fantastic. She looks at Kiyoko with her jaw dropped, and her eyes wide, and stammers, "so... are we dating...?"
Kiyoko smirks at her, and just can't help kissing her cheek.
"If you want to, of course."
"Yes! Of course! Yes I want to! That's... yes! Obviously!" Hitoka yaps, fast, with her words almost tripping on each other. "O-okay! Yeah! Of course! That's all I've ever wanted!" And the more she talks, the more another voice in her head yells at her to shut up, until it's Kiyoko forcing her to, by pressing a giggly kiss to her lips again.
"I-mmmph-"
"I get it," she says, and takes Hitoka's hand between both her own. "Then we're dating."
Hitoka's eyes are still wide open as she stares at this pretty, amazing, gentle angel that chose her among everyone else.
"D-dating," she echoes, as slowly her synapses finally fire the way they're supposed to, and her stomach twists again, except this time it's adrenaline rushing through her veins as she looks around. Some girls look at them, but not many people seem to have noticed them at all.
Secretly, she moves her fingers towards Kiyoko's relaxed hand, and as soon as their fingertips touch a new kind of electricity runs up her spine. A happy one.
Kiyoko smiles again.
"You are really cute, Hitoka-san," she says quietly, and Hitoka's heart bursts again in her chest, as she stammers something - she probably doesn't even know why, herself.
Oh heavens, she's even cuter like this, Kiyoko thinks, and clenches her fists to avoid grabbing both of her now-official girlfriend and squeezing them tight in hers.
"I-I like you, Kiyoko-senpai!" Hitoka squeals out, and the other girl looks at her blinking with surprise, and then laughs again, hugging her.
"Yes, I think I got that. I like you too," she replies, her voice quiet just as usual.
"REALLY?"
Kiyoko scoffs, even more amused, and bites on her onigiri. With time Hitoka will get over her surprise. But while it lasts, it going to be really amusing. And really cute, too.
