Daiki noticed his looks after roughly a dozen of them, during practice. He especially noticed when his team's shooter missed a really, really easy shot to look at him.
"Ryou, what's wrong?" He finally asks, wiping his sweat-covered face with his uniform's shoulder.
His brown-haired teammate looks down at his hands, floored, and then flicks his eyes up at him, completely at loss.
"I-I'm sorry, Aomine-san! I was distracted," he replies, with a deep bow that makes him notice his shoes are untied.
"It's fine, but it's just weird for you to miss such an easy one," Daiki replies, not even addressing the constant apologies while Ryou crouches down to tie his shoes. "Something on your mind?"
"Eh? Oh, no! No, absolutely nothing's in my mind!" Ryou replies while going completely red in the face, and he stands upright, tense and looking somewhere else than Aomine's eyes. And of course, he just confirmed in the most incontrovertible way that something is upsetting him.
Daiki keeps looking at him, for a while, but then shrugs and goes back to shooting into the basket, infallible. Only the moment he wipes some sweat away again does he realize, Ryou is looking at him now.
"What?" He asks, bouncing the ball at rest.
The other blinks heavily while staring at him then, and shakes his head vigorously, before beginning to shoot from further and further away. Incredibly, he does not miss one.
"Huh, that's great, Ryou. You're almost shooting from half," Daiki notices, stopping his own practice routine.
"Ah, t-thanks, Aomine-san," Ryou replies, smiling brightly now, and almost proudly. "I want to be great like Aomine-san."
At that, Daiki blinks with a slight blush appearing on his already darker cheeks, and frowns. "Uh, thanks, I guess?" He replies low, before setting up a quick play only to go for one of his spectacular formless shots, and then rest again with surprise hitting him at the very last once he realizes how that looked, or better yet how things are. He just showed off after being told he was looked up to. So lame. He tries to play it casually, like the unexpected praise and the absurd goal he just scored were unrelated, and his teammates just sigh muttering that's just like the usual Aomine. Ryou looks at him in awe instead, and approaches him only after practice is over.
"Uhm, Aomine-san, those impossible shots you do are really great," he hums, with a shy little smile.
"Uh? Thanks," Daiki replies, casual again, bouncing the ball a few more times and then taking his jersey off to walk to the locker room.
"Wait a second!" Ryou stops him, extending an arm, and bites his lip nervously as he takes in the sight of Daiki's shirtless form. Since when did he start ogling other boys?
"Huh?"
"Well... I wanted to ask you something," Ryou continues, blushing and looking around to make sure nobody's listening.
"Yeah? What, shoot," Daiki replies, wiping his face and puffing hot air out. "I need to take this shit off and get a shower."
He stares down at Ryou with cool blue eyes, and the latter ends up cursing himself for speaking in the first place.
"Uh, I'm sorry... I'm sorry! I was just, uh... well, it's just I was thinking about a few things, like how cool you are when you play," he starts out, torturing his hands. "And I was just wondering, huh, well... I mean, I'm saying that I guess... I suppose... well, I like you, Aomine-san. Please go out with me," he finishes, staring up into Daiki's eyes and his whole body goes tense before he remembers about breathing and he takes a long one.
Daiki keeps silent for a few seconds, before turning his eyes away without changing his expression and looking outside through the window: it's raining.
"Then I'll wait for you outside. Let's go take a walk," he replies, calm, before throwing the now completely soaked jersey up his shoulder and turning around, then walks coolly to the showers where, only then, he closes his eyes and blushes completely, wondering what to do and how to deal with the situation. In short, panicking. But anyway, if what he feels is anxiety, Ryou is absolutely beyond himself with panic and he goes sitting on a bench in the locker room holding his head between his hands until everybody is gone - some of them threw him odd looks, but figured it was just him overreacting to something minor and moved on. Unless it's only him and Daiki left there.
What to do? Should he run? Should he talk to Aomine-san and say it was all a joke?
The moment he gets a chance to talk, though - as in the moment Daiki actually appears in front of him - he just stares at him, wondering whether that reply Aomine gave him was a yes or something else.
"What are you doing still sweaty? Go get a shower, come on, then we'll go somewhere," he almost barks, looking at the other. "We could go somewhere fun, yeah? Like karaoke! Or shopping," he then adds, grinning now, as he figured being his usual dorky self is better than pretending to be still as cold as he used to be.
"Eh? Eh?" Ryou gasps, standing up and then flushing from head to toe, realizing he's still covered in sweat, and then running to the showers without adding anything. Daiki looks at him go, smirking a bit. That boy is cute, he decides.
