The moment Haru opens the door - giving up after a whole minute of his doorbell ringing - his eyes slide up and down the body before him, before a small twitch of his forehead reveals a hint of subtle displeasure with seeing his visitor.
"What do you want, Yamazaki?" He asks, not stepping back one inch from the door frame.
The corners of Sousuke's lips twitch downward, before he finally pushes his way in, not exactly being resisted to either.
"You know how it's Nagisa's birthday in a bit..." he begins, and clears his throat.
"I already got him his gift," Haru states, firm and proud, even inflating his chest a little.
"Cool. Good for you," Sousuke retorts, flat, throwing a half-glare his way before looking around to the simple, unadorned walls. "Anyway, I don't know what to get him, so I thought you'd have an idea... since you've been knowing him longer," he finally explains, with a lower tone to his voice and some embarrassment turning his cheeks slightly pink while he drags his fingers through his own hair.

Haruka's brows knit again a little throwing Sousuke a piercing blue look, but then he quietly turns around walking to the kitchen to put a kettle on the gas and boil some water for tea.
"He's going to be happy with anything, as long as we're there," he finally replies, quiet, looking down at the blue ring of fire warming the steel up. "The gift isn't important."
"So you didn't get him anything?" Sousuke asks, with a frown and his lips twitching in disbelief.
A brief pause follows, before Haruka finally looks at him from over his own shoulder.
"Of course I did," he shoots back. "You should get him something you think he'll like."
This is one of the billion things Sousuke can't stand about Haru.
"No shit, right? But I don't know what he likes!" Sousuke protests, frowning even more. "I'm asking you because you're his boyfriend..."
"You are too," Haru points out, and in the glance he throws back there's some childish amusement now. You're his boyfriend too, and yet...
"Will you stop beating around the bush?" Sousuke finally says, already losing some of the patience he made sure to stuff in his guts for this.
"He likes anything that's heartfelt." Haru finally dishes out. "And he clearly likes you," he adds, before getting pensive as he looks outside at the leaves being tickled by a summer breeze.
"Well, that narrows it down," Sousuke mutters, sarcastic, and for a few minutes he just stands there, next to Haru, looking at the kettle mumble from the water boiling. After all, he probably shouldn't have expected anything helpful from Haruka Nanase. Especially since he seems to still have something against Nagisa being with both of them. Even though they agreed on it, even though every time he snuggled up sandwiched between them and smiled, there was no way they could think that kind of arrangement was somehow wrong. As for the two of them, there is something proudly odd and yet comforting about the way Haruka agreed to this. It's not really sharing, it's knowing that the love Nagisa has to give has too many shapes to be poured into one relationship only.
"Do something that's you," Haru finally advises, pouring his portion of hot water on the brew and glancing at Sousuke to serve himself. God forbid he does more than what he needs.
"I didn't want any, anyway," he mutters, following Haru to the living room and sitting down on a pillow. "And you're not really helping, you know," he adds, glaring at the other.
Haru glances over at him, while taking a sip, allowing himself a few seconds of silence, before finally sighing.
"You're a good cook. He likes sweets. Bake him a cake, he'll be more than happy with eating. And both of us being there."
Sousuke does eye Haru a bit confused. Generally Haruka Nanase doesn't repeat things. He doesn't stress things. If people get what he's saying, then good. If they don't, then he probably won't care to elaborate.
However, he's remarked twice that Nagisa is going to be happy with merely their presence around him, on his birthday. Which seems to be a fairly obvious conclusion - they're his boyfriends, after all. But there's something in how Haru repeated himself, as if Sousuke really would not understand that on his own, like he didn't know Nagisa well enough to have caught onto how much that guy needs company and affection, how much he craves for other people to be around him.
"I guess," he replies, finally, with a sigh. "I did think about something to eat, but that seemed kind of lame."
"Well, that makes sense. You are lame," Haru jokes, and takes another sip.
"Will you shut the hell up?" Sousuke mutters, and they sit there in Haruka's living room for a bit, in a relaxed silence, until eventually Sousuke's elbow nudges Haruka's side and the other twitches in place, glaring at him.
"What."
"What did you get him?" Sousuke asks, moving closer. Haru eyes him up and down with a bit of suspicion, before taking another long sip, which should be burning his throat, but apparently nothing in his body or mind makes a lick of sense.
"A penguin onesie," he replies, finally. "Because it's cute, and he'd love it."
And Nagisa would look disproportionately cute in it, Sousuke completes in his mind, and nods with a little smile playing on his lips.
"Sounds good," he says, before finally standing up. "Well, I guess that's settled, then."

Nagisa's eyes light up as if they were staring directly to fireworks, when both of them stop by a little bit longer at his place after a crowded, messy birthday party. They are all sitting in a wide, western-styled living room dotted with various snack packages, empty plastic glasses and plates, and the party is over but looking at Nagisa it would seem that in some ways it only just began. Especially because his parents left earlier while their house still looked somewhat decent and stumbled among all the people that flooded the place for Nagisa, and they'll probably be out a little bit longer.
"I love it!" Nagisa squeaks, touching the soft fabric of the onesie Haruka gave him.
Sousuke gazes at him, for a moment thinking that just a few months ago he didn't even know Nagisa's name, and now his mere presence there - together with Haru's, alright - is enough to make him look like this - so purely joyous. He is not the only one, either. There was a comedically unbelievable proper timing for Nagisa to sparkle from a distance, then crash into Sousuke like a comet. Rise a thick dust and re-arranging some things while Sousuke couldn't see, and then once he blinked and looked around himself again, Nagisa's fingers were tied around him. And on the other end, there was Nanase. Of course, Sousuke did not resent him anymore, not after understanding that, in a way, Rin had hindered Haru's swimming career, not the other way around. Still, he wondered why Nagisa had chosen Sousuke of all people to share into something as abnormal as his relationship with Haruka. Really, the two of them couldn't be situated at the most opposite points of every single line, in every single way, and yet Nagisa was there assimilating peace from Haru. Haru got his share of company, and treasured the warmth of it without all the annoying bits about social interaction. Haru accepted Nagisa, and Nagisa accepted Haru.
Sousuke being anywhere in that equation almost seemed jarring, yet one day he found himself– not thinking, knowing he wanted to keep being around these two. No matter what it would mean. His playful rivalry with Haru had switched from annoying and better to avoid, to something similar to a table tennis match.
This is good. Maybe it'll end sooner or later, but right now it's good, it helps with the ache of that image etched in his mind - Rin's features disappearing, the distance stretching painfully between them as their futures pull them to opposite ends again. This is good.

Nagisa practically dives with his whole face right through the whipped cream surface of Sousuke's strawberry shortcake, and before he's got time to say 'thank you', an entire slice disappeared in his mouth.
"Wow," Sousuke comments, sitting back in relief. "You like it?"
"Do I like it?! This is amazing," Nagisa replies, with his eyes going wide, and then frowns in the effort to explain himself. "This... is the best cake I've eaten in my entire life. If there was a queen among strawberry shortcakes, this one would slay all the competition. I wanna marry it. I want its babies. I want to keep stuffing my face with this cake for the rest of my life. I want to–"
"Okay, I think we got the gist," Haru interrupts him, with dry amusement, while Sousuke giggles quietly, his shoulders completely dropping in relaxation.
"Good," he says, before eyeing Haru and sliding a finger under Nagisa's chin.
"You've got some cream on your face," he starts, with heat rising to his cheeks because of how cheesy his intentions are. He knows, okay? But Nagisa just looks too sweet to not want to kiss that adorable face of his. Except Haru's blue stab stops him in his tracks.
"Yamazaki, you are so lame," he mutters, shaking his head as he rolls his eyes to the ceiling.
"What?" Nagisa chirps, curious, looking between the two of them.
"He's getting cozy," Haru replies, lying back against the sofa.
"Ah! You're okay with that, right?" Nagisa asks, with that hint of carefulness that reminds both of them how actually not childish he is.
"Sure, I was just objecting to his tactic," Haru says, pointing at Sousuke. "Not even I am that lazy."
Sousuke frowns, blushing entirely.
"Will you shut the fuck up?" He responds, just as dry, and immediately throws a pillow at him. Haru takes it, without even bothering to shield himself, but the glint of amusement in his eyes is that one in a dozen that actually manages getting to Sousuke. Because of what a little asshole he is. How is Nagisa with this guy, again?
"As long as I get kisses I don't care for strategies," Nagisa hums, finally straddling Sousuke's lap and leaning into him for a kiss that's all contact between their bodies as well. That is how Sousuke gets reminded that Nagisa knows his how-to. His mouth makes Sousuke's taste of whipped cream within seconds, and as Sousuke's hand lifts to rest on Nagisa's side a little bubbly laughter sprouts between their mouths.
Haruka looks on, blinking slowly, and just after closing his eyes to indulge himself in a brief nap, a familar weigh climbs onto his lap then Nagisa's scent surrounds him with his arms.
"No sleep tonight, Haru-chan," the small man whispers in his ear, while a hand ghosts above the elder's stomach. "Let's do something fun."
Haru opens his eyes only to look past Nagisa's shoulder, and shoot Sousuke an accusatory look.
But the other smirks.
"Monopoly," he mouths, and Haru's eyebrows furrow.
"Absolutely not. Last time that gorilla almost attacked me," Haru objects, looking directly at Nagisa now as he points his finger to Sousuke.
"Aw, come on... we haven't played Monopoly in forever!" The other protests, bouncing on his lap softly.
"You were clearly cheating, okay?" Sousuke echoes, sitting next to the two of them.
"Okay, okay. What about I give each of you a kiss, and then we play something? I also have shogi!"
"Shogi sounds good," Haru agrees, locking his fingers behind Nagisa's back.
"Can you play shogi in three?" Sousuke asks, arching an eyebrow.
"You can look," Haruka replies, with a light shrug.
"Don't be mean!" Nagisa scolds him, before plopping on the sofa by Haruka's side. "Mmmh, what could we do?"
"Let's go out," Sousuke finally proposes, joining them.
"Yes! Dinner!" Nagisa chirps, kicking his legs in excitement.
"You just ate like a lion," Haru points out, despite not looking at all impressed by his boyfriend's appetite. He most likely saw things. Things mere humans cannot even imagine.
"Aw, that's not true! I just ate a bit of cake..."
"... And sandwiches, and sushi, and more cake, and pastries, and hot dog–" Haru starts listing, deadpan, and leans his head on Nagisa's shoulder.
"Okay, so what about we watch a movie and cuddle?" Nagisa finally proposes, giving up the same moment connection with Haruka is made.
"We should clean up this mess first, though," Sousuke says, looking around at the desolation their friends left. And for once, Haru has no reason to disagree.
"Yeah. Let's do that first."
"Aw, guys... c'mon...!" Nagisa whines, looking at his boyfriends stand up. "I cannot believe I'm being abandoned for something as trivial as cleaning up!"
"Poor you," Haru comments, picking up glasses and plastic dishes from pretty much all over the floor.
"Alright, fine," Nagisa concedes, finally, before standing up in a dramatic yawn, and offering Sousuke a perfect chance to bury his face against the other's stomach. Which he doesn't follow. He just turns around, grabbing some more trash.
While ignoring Nagisa's disappointed mutters, it occurs to him that it barely ever gets this peaceful anymore, not like when he was a kid. After high school, it was as if all serenity slowly faded.
But as he glances back at the pout on Nagisa's face and at Haruka's figure already distracted by something water-related on the television, a fleeting second of peace does, indeed, move across him.
